Bookmark and Share

Do you like to eat? To meet and talk with people of other faiths?  To share your food and traditions?  To help feed school children in Oakland over their spring breaks?

Here's your opportunity!

Please join the Interfaith Project to Combat Hunger in Oakland for a Potluck Dinner and Food Drive on Saturday March 9, 2013 at 6:00 p.m

Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC)
1433 Madison Street, Oakland, CA 94612

For more info please contact info@iccnc.org or 510-832-7600

Please bring a vegetarian potluck dish (preferably something that reflects your traditions) to share, and a bag of non-perishable food (see list below) to donate to needy families at the Greenleaf Elementary School, Oakland Unified School District.

Greenleaf School provides a large percentage of children free breakfast and lunch every day. However, during the two-week spring break, these children will not receive these meals. Many will go hungry; therefore, several Christian, Jewish, Muslim congregations have joined forces to help these children.

The congregations participating in the Interfaith Project to Combat Hunger in Oakland include: ICCNC, Montclair Presbyterian Church, Temple Sinai, St. John's Episcopal Church, Masjid Al-Iman, Kehilla Community Synagogue, and Newman Hall Holy Spirit Parish.

This event is made possible by a grant form One Nation Bay Area Project.

List of acceptable food item: rice, vegetables cans (mixed, green beans, corn), dried beans (Portuguese and pinto), cans of fruit/fruit cups, cereals, dried pasta, cans of soup and tomato sauce, packages of dried nuts or trail mix, tuna, peanut butter/jelly (no glass jars), packages of tostadas, dried fruits (in packages). Please no tortillas or anything perishable.
